ON THE HOUR EVERY HOUR

This is the best of a 10 year collection of chimes in different cities and towns I have visited. The unique sound of a place has always been of interest to me. From the language you overhear, the birds, the cafe culture and the one subtle thing that unites all is the chimes of a church bell or call to prayer on the hour every hour. Most of us share the same sensory experience when traveling but we often limit our documentation to visual. Having been a photographer for so many years my interest naturally leaned towards what I was ignoring.

During the height of the pandemic our sense of hearing had been limited to the inside of our homes. Nature however was given a breather and we heard birds louder than cars and construction for a short while. We have naturally become aware of the things we had tuned out in our everyday lives which weren’t natural. Bringing out this collection during a time of travel restrictions has brought about a sense of nostalgia on a personal level. It made me more aware of what we have been experiencing and what we have missed.
